On every street and by-way in Marquette live people whose lives are richly blessed, as well as people struggling to survive brokenness, loneliness, divorce, terminal illness, death of a loved one, hunger, housing or job loss (or both), broken relationships, emptiness, and more. And, the Church is Marquette is variously struggling to be renewed.

The good news is that on these same streets are people who feel the pain and brokenness of others and who believe that through prayer the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ can bring light, healing, wholeness and renewal into the darkness.

Needed: 186 Prayer Lighters for the City of Marquette plus entrances into the city: Airport, Seaport and highways

Communities Being Lit by Prayer is God’s people passionately lifting up to Him the hearts, souls and lives of the broken, the lonely, the needy, and a desperate Church. This is not a project of any individual church or organization. It is simply God’s people responding to God’s call to prayer.

It works this way: Once or twice a week simply walk or drive the street or area you adopt (or pray vicariously) offering something along these lines:“Lord Jesus, may the people in this home (or place) embrace You as Christ and lift Your Name high. And may Your Church in Marquette be renewed.” Embracing Christ brings healing and wholeness; renewing the Church renews the community and can set people to once again thinking in terms of their relationship to Eternity.

To become a Prayer Lighter in Communities Being Lit by Prayer simply fill in the spaces below and begin to bless your community today through your prayers. A large map charts the progress of this prayer endeavor. As of March 31, 2012, more than 30 Prayer Lighters have committed to praying over 24 streets and 800+ dwellings within the city. Prayer Lighters in outlying areas add at least another 200.

A Simple Plan

Dick Eastman, in his book Beyond Imagination—a simple plan to save the world, writes, “Early in my ministry a wise colleague and instructor told me, ‘Dick, God’s plans are always incredibly simple and unusually inexpensive. So if things start getting terribly complex and amazingly expensive, you might rethink whether it is God’s plan after all’.”

Communities Being Lit by Prayer is incredibly simple and unusually inexpensive, but it is not cheap; it requires surrender and relationship, first to Christ then with others.

Anticipated Outcome: people and communities greatly impacted by the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Communities impacted by Christ impact a nation for Christ.
