The Background of Project Heart Cry
God has put all things under the authority of Christ…
Ephesians 1:22
“Chuck, embracing me is the only way America can save its soul”. Those words awakened me at 1:00 AM on June 17, 2011. Instantly, I knew I had to get up and begin writing. With pen and prayer journal in hand, I headed for the living room, knowing the only way I could properly hear the Spirit’s message was on my knees. So, on my knees I went.
The day before, June 16th, over the car radio I heard the words “saving America’s soul” and knew immediately that was the finishing concept I needed for an earlier task the Spirit had laid on my heart: “Embracing Christ Community Prayer Initiatives”. I knew it needed a website but also “knew” that like everything else I had tried, Saving America’s Soul was already taken. Imagine my surprise when my friend reported that Saving America’s Soul.com was available! I made haste to grab it right away.
Still on my knees in the living room, I urgently prayed, “Abba, Father, Jesus, Lord, speak to me in ways I can understand. Fuel me with passion, a deep and lasting passion for this work you are laying upon me.” The reply: “Chuck, embracing me is the only way America can save its soul. But first the souls of the people need to be in right relationship with me and the only way that can happen is through prayer. Deep-seated, passionate prayer. It will start with one person, grow to two, then three, then four, then exponentially. It must become a community initiative because there is strength in fellowship, and fellowship requires community.”
The Spirit continued: “Chuck, this is to be a person to person, heart to heart, word of mouth movement. There is no need to print huge volumes of material. A website or Facebook will be needed for people to refer to for updates and other leadings. Give people freedom to download all things that I give you.
“Chuck, America was intended to be one of my expressions of what a nation fully committed to the fullness of the Trinity could become. America got off to a great start, but America’s soul is presently in great danger. She is following the path of Christian in Pilgrim’s Progress. Rather than moving forward with purpose and resolve she is being seduced by other gods and the detours are sucking her into the slough of despair.
“Chuck, my Word and my Spirit went forth from Israel into Europe and Scandinavia where it was nurtured and refined, often at great personal cost to my people and my Church. When the concepts were fully defined in the hearts of the people I led them to a new land to put in place something that had never been before. I gave them freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom of worship, helped them pen a Declaration of Independence and form a Constitution and had them lay it all out on paper so they could continually refer to it and refresh their memories when such became necessary.
“But what is happening now is a repeat of what was true of so many in the Old Testament: ‘… they did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord.’.”
Still on my knees and listening: “I eventually allowed Israel to be enslaved by other nations over her unfaithfulness—but the sad thing is that it did not have to happen that way. It happened only because the people and the nation sold their souls to other gods.
“Chuck, at the end of the day I will have my way with America, she will become all I created her to be but unless she begins to guard her soul, and to guard her heart (the center of all her being) it will come at a very high and painful price. Again, Chuck, the sad thing is that as with Israel, it does not have to happen that way with America, either! There is time for return! There is time for America to once again begin guarding her soul, to return to me and the vision I have for her!
“Chuck I am calling you to be one more voice calling America to prayer, prayer focusing on embracing the only One who can lead America where she needs to go. Call America to fully embrace the one who desires to fully embrace America. Only Christ, only I, can lead America back to the center of her soul, a soul centered on me.”
Then I heard these beautiful words: “America is my shining jewel, my light to the world of what a nation can become who embraces the fullness of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
“Call people to prayer! Call communities to prayer! Call the Church to prayer over America and each other for the soul of the people is a precious soul and the soul of a nation is the sum expression of the souls of its people!
“Chuck, go forward with a passion!. Don’t look back, don’t give up! Yes, I am calling others to work in other ways, but I am calling you to work in this time and this place. Like Mary cleansing and anointing my feet, pour out the best you have and the fragrance will spread through all the house. Prayer walkers, small groups, large gatherings, wherever and whenever I lead you! All are important. In Richness in Christ I asked you to take the message of my richness to the nations, but now I direct you to focus intensely on America—my light, my gem, my jewel for these times! America still has a soul, and the soul is well worth saving!” His voice was pleadingly urgent.
“Chuck, start right where you are and my Spirit will help you and walk with you in and through all things.”
I prayed, “Jesus, envelope me with a burning passion, a truly burning passion for this. I praise your name.” When I arose from my knees the clock read 3:30 AM.
At 6:45 AM I met with my friend Jerry. We were in Acts 20 and in verse 24 Paul’s words boldly confronted me: “But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others about God’s wonderful kindness and love.”
I am 73 years old. I have never experienced an America such as we have today, and her tortured soul truly needs saving. Our heirs have been entrusted to us and desperately await lasting repairs to an increasingly undermined foundation. The hard truth is that only through embracing the life and person of Jesus Christ in fervent and purposeful prayer can that salvation be realized.
So my choices are either enter in or detach, but the cross is not about detachment. So, I choose to enter in, to engage the world rather than to just walk away.

Please read them thoroughly, then go to your knees in prayer. The Spirit will lead you from there. America is waiting… and hurting …and wasting …but oh so ripe and available.
I urge you, please, to become a part of a mighty army going forth under the banner of Jesus Christ for the purpose of saving America’s soul. It will happen no other way.
